Tourist Places in Cherrapunjee

Cherrapunji is a place of immaculate natural and scenic beauty. The area is a place of continuous rainfall. The Cherrapunji valleys are covered with fog and mist round the year. The waterfalls and streams are engrossed with cloud. Orchids, ferns and moss grow around the valleys which make it a place of breath taking beauty. There are dense woods combined with rocky cliffs adding to the beauty of Cherrapunji.

Cherrapunji is a paradise for nature lovers. Cherrapunji is the place worth visiting throughout the year. There are mesmerizing waterfalls like Nohkalikai Falls, Dain Thlen Falls, Kynrem Waterfalls among others. There are also natural beauty places like Living Root Bridges, Mawsmai Cave and Khasi Monoliths. In addition to that, there are other places of interest in Cherrapunji including the Cherrapunji Meteorological Observatory and David Scott Memorial.


The beautiful town of Cherrapunjee also has few religious places in and around the town. There is the first Presbyterian Church in Cherrapunjee established by a Christian missionary. The church is located in Nongsawlia in lower Cherrapunjee. The church conducts regular prayer services for the local people of Cherrapunjee. There is also the Ram Krishna Mission built in Cherrapunjee. It was built in the year 1939.

The beautiful Ram Krishna Mission  every year conducts a special performance known as Shad Suk Mynsiem or 'Dance of the Joyous Heart' during the month of April. There is also the Cherrapunjee Theological College at Nongsawlia which was built in the year 1888 by the Welsh Presbyterian Missionaries and imparts training to the local preachers to spread Christianity.
